So we’ve talked about making our fashion habits more ethical by adopting sustainable habits; neglecting fast fashion, shopping vintage and secondhand, repurposing items in your wardrobe, however, ethics is far more expansive than environmental concerns. Ethics encompasses moral principles as a whole and in the light of Black Lives Matter and recent conversations about systemic racism (particularly adverse to black people), it would be inept and inexcusable to ignore the ways the fashion and lifestyle industries contribute to these inequalities. The lack of representation is something that we’ve discussed on The VogueCIEL in the past, but we recognise that we’ve neglected to research and share black-owned brands.

Supporting black entrepreneurs, companies and creators is a subject that’s close to heart for me as a black woman, and something that I will continue to do on this platform and in life. So to start, here’s a selection of black-owned brands and creatives that we’re loving.
